Wonder Woman Blend

To get shit done

I created this blend for those special days when you wake and feel you just might be capable of tackling your to-do list. If you have brain fog, you can substitute lemongrass oil for the Melissa oil (also known as lemon balm oil). The aroma this blend provides will be like a rocket-booster and help you stay motivated. This diffusing blend also sustains energy through one of those marathon decluttering, Maria Kondo sessions - especially because of the cypress. Fire up this blend in your diffuser and get ready to celebrate your achievements.

On Mothering Yourself

While we all at some point had mothers, not all of us do today. And not all of us had good mothers. And some are grieving never becoming a mother. For me, my illness stole from me the chance to be a mom - something I desperately wanted ever since I was conscious of what being a mother was. One way to heal from these types of deep wounds is to learn how to mother yourself. Here are ten aspects of mothering and how you can mothering yourself

Yoga is the Best Medicine

The benefits of a regular yoga practice is an increasingly popular topic. Yet those who would likely benefit the most probably conclude that yoga just isn’t for them. They may think it’s too hard, too dangerous, too active and just too weird. But just because you don’t have a yoga butt and will never do an arm balance in your life does not mean you can not benefit from yoga. Yoga is a small word for a wide range of practices. The best yoga adapts to the practitioner; and the best practitioner listens to their own body and learns.

Ignite Your Beltane Fire

May 1 is the start of Beltane (pronounced bell’tane) and the start of summer in the Celtic calendar. Actually, summer begins at sundown. May day celebrations and May pole dances today celebrate the traditional start of summer.  The mood is of celebration and anticipation. As the sun returns to us in warmth and reach, the symbolism of fire can remind us of our own creativity so I encourage to you set aside some time to consider these questions - what can you bring alive and create in this season? How can you be and feel more alive?

The Alchemy of Love

Here in DC, the National Cathedral is a place of refuge and retreat and very beloved to me.  We come as pilgrims looking for rest and refuge. Notre Dame matters to art lovers, history lovers, architecture lovers, literature lovers, Paris lovers, French lovers. The destructive fire on Holy Week seems to only have made the pain more acute - for this is a week when we remember the shadows of life and the pain. Consider how lost and abandoned Jesus was.

Float Thru a Field Blend

To hold you when overwhelmed

I concocted this blend to evoke not only the smell of a grassy meadow after a rain, but also to carry me away from my distress. And to support and hold me while I mourned and grieved my lost ambitions and then, once having moved through the sadness, to allow myself to be held and supported so I could simply relax and reset.

On Being Seen on Capitol Hill

This past Wednesday, April 3rd, I participated in Advocacy Day sponsored by Solve ME/CFS and MEAction. I joined over 234 other advocates who spread out over Capitol Hill to more than 224 Senate and House offices to change minds through personal stories, education and facts. Advocacy is empowering. Not everyone is able to channel their anger at the injustice into advocacy and certainly the sickest in our society are often TOO sick to fight for justice.

Spring Podcast Recommendations

I listen to podcasts all the time. When I’d like distraction in my mind from the discomfort in my body, I prefer to just lay back and listen. And there is SO much excellent content out there. I’ve curated some excellent ones for you - some on health, but not all. Because we do not have to be thinking and learning about wellness all the time, right? And I’ve highlighted several specific outstanding episodes from these podcast series too.

On Why Style Matters

This week I discuss why style matters and focus on how we can be more mindful and optimistic :: ease and why it has to be prioritized and what ease means; why being realistic can open up possibilities; how our inner narrative affects our confidence and sense of style and why we need to be kind; and why our feelings and gut reactions need to be honored. Then I offer some specific recommendations which I provide links to below.

Style Despite Sickness

I wanted to interview Sydney Lester of Chic Stripes because she has been so helpful to me as I try to wake up to fashion. Looking better helped me to feel better. And as I started to feeling better and feel more confident and more in my body, I started to feel even better. For once, I managed to create a positive feedback loop. Most of all, she guided me in changing my wardrobe so I am more excited to get up out of bed and get dressed!
